While searching iOS6 on web, we believe it is not difficult to see articles about ”features we found interesting in the newest iOS6”. However, today, we are not going to tell you how amaze it is about iOS6. Instead, as a Apple addict, this time Apple cannot satisfy us. Therefore, it is time to talk about the four reasons why we are disappointed. We know there is no such perfect and the best operating system in the world. However, because it is the brand of Apple, we believe it could have done better.
1. Confront competitors, Apple no longer ahead of its time
Back when Steve Jobs released the original iPhone five years ago (2007), he said that the operating system was “at least five years ahead of its time”. However, nowadays, a natural user interface is no longer a competitive advantage. It became mainstream years ago. In the past, iPhone OS1 made the phrase “ease-of-use”, but today, the concept is no longer a selling point. So our question is “what’s next Apple?”
2. Most of what it can do, it cannot do superior than others.
For example, Facebook integration. Windows Phone 7 and HTC Sense have already done that. Third party apps have been offering video calls over cellular long before the iPhone’s own manufacturer figured it out. These reasons are no longer big enough to stir any customer away from the competition.
3. Apparently look the same.
From iOS1 to iOS 6, undoubtedly, the functions improved. However, it still looks the same. Can you imagine Microsoft launching a Windows Vista that still looked like Windows XP? We understand Apple’s purpose in keeping the grid of icons all over, but if you are a first-time user, you get the grid, and if you are a power user, you can customize it differently.
4. Fragmentation is not justified by hardware limitations.
For example, as of beta 1, Siri is not supported by the iPad 2, who’s guts are almost identical to what we find powering the iPhone 4S. And if the iPhone 4 and 3GS are getting iOS 6, why isn’t the first-generation iPad getting it? None of these technical decisions make logical sense, unless you add dollars into the equation.
What we are trying to say here is not how bad it is about the iOS6. There are millions of reasons why iPhone 4S is still in our pockets. However, what our biggest concern lies in its future. Apple seems to fall into a comfort zone while competitors are catching up. We look forward to seeing next iOS give us a bigger surprise.
