Sharing your tweet on twitter is like shouting with an amplifier where sharing your message on Path is like whispering with friends. Many of my friends like to share their daily life photos and gossips but a portion of my friends rather use Path to track their sleeping record. Path provides a very easy function and simple interface for people to record down their sleeping history, just press a button when you go sleep and wake up, Path will saved the time you go to bed and what time do you wake up. With the history, Path then calculates how long you have taken. Sounds interesting, right?
As a social platform, Path captured lots of data from their numerous users. Do you want to know what time do others go to bed? Let’s take a look on their statistics summary. According to Path, people usually sleep at 00:27, wake up at 08:24, the average duration is 7 Hours and 56 minutes. This implied that Path users are late sleepers and not used to wake up early in the morning. Actually, it’s normal for this new generation.
Path also segmented the statistics focus by sex, women usually sleep at 00:18, and wake up at 08:24, sleeping duration is 8 hours and 6 minutes. Men sleep at 00:37, and wake up at 08:23, the sleeping duration is 7 hours and 45 minutes. Conclusion: Female sleep longer than Male because male are late sleeper. By filtering the age, older people sleep less and they prefer to sleep earlier. Teenager (Age: 18 – 21) usually wake up at 09:06 which is one and half hour later than older people at 07:38.
Path data reflected if user check-in at different places at day time, the sleeping behavior will be different. Logically, people who checked in at GYM room or office, their sleeping behavior are normal while people sleep late if they have checked-in at pub or music concert.
Since Path is now integrated with Nike+, my friends have started to share their jogging behaviors. Comparing people who don’t have jogging habit, jogging group of people loves to sleep and wake up earlier.
So, how important sleeping is? Arianna Huffington has shared a short story. Three and half years ago, she was fell on the floor and her head hit the table which causes her mandible fracture and she needed to do surgery stitches on her right eye. This is because of work-overwhelmed and lack of sleep. After this horrible experience, she rethinks about the value of sleeping and she now believes sleep enough can make her more productive and energetic with all day long. So, from what Path has told us, we should at least sleep for 7 – 8 hours as what normally people do.
