Before the release of the Apple iPhone 5, Samsung introduced its latest gadget at IFA 2012 in Berlin last week. Many people describe Galaxy Note 2 as a larger S3. Let’s have a closer look on what are the different between them.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs Samsung Galaxy S3
Size & Weight
The size of the devics will be one of the biggest concerns of the customers. The Note 2 measures in at 151.1 x 80.5 x 9.4mm and weighs 180g. The S3 is relatively smaller and thinner. It measures in at 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6mm and weighs 133g.
Storage & Memory
The Galaxy Note 2 will be in 16, 32 and 64GB. It can be upgraded through miniSD card slot which can accept cards up to 64GB. That goes for the S3 too, meaning both devices max out at an impressive 128GB of combined internal and expanded storage.
On the RAM front, the Galaxy Note 2 bests the S3, as its 2GB of RAM doubles that of the latter’s 1GB.
It is obviously that the display of the Note 2 is larger than that of the Galaxy S3. The screen size of the Note 2 is 5.5 inch while S3 is 4.8inch. Galaxy Note is similar to a palm top. Although these two devices have high pixel densities, S3 has higher pixel density than Galaxy Note 2.
The Galaxy Note 2 is equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. The S3 also owns an 8-megapixel resolution camera and its front-facing shooter sits a tick better at 2-megapixels. Both of them have the functions like autofocus, geo-tagging, LED flash and HD video recording.
Although both devices run a Samsung-customised version of Android, the Note 2 runs on the latest and greatest version of Google’s mobile OS – 4.1 Jelly Bean. The S3 only runs on the last-gen 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Other than that, both of them have unique features like S Voice (the voice assistant), direct call (allow users to instantly call a contact on screen simply by putting the device near to the ear and Smart Stay) and eye tracking software.
Both the them are equipped with a quad core Cortex A9 processor, Samsung Exynos 4412 Quad chipset and Mali 400MP GPU. The biggest difference is the processor clock speed. Note 2 owns 1.6GHz while S3 only owns 1.4 GHz. Therefore, this two devices are quite similar in the specification.
The Note 2 is equipped with a 3,100 mAh Li-ion battery while S3 only have a 2,100 mAh Li-ion battery. For the battery life, S3 offers 11.5 hours talk time and 790 hours of stand by time. However, the battery life of Note 2 is not revealed by Samsung until now.
On the connectivity front, both of them are similar. However, the Galaxy Note 2 supports LTE, which will be a boon for UK customers on Everything Everywhere when the UK rollout of 4G begins here on 11 September.
