Sure, the screen is nice. But the iPad’s most important component, at least for Apple’s future, may be the A4, the fingernail-size chip at the tablet’s heart.

With the A4, Apple has taken another step toward challenging the norms of the mobile device industry. Device makers typically buy their primary chips from specialized microprocessor companies. But for the iPad, Apple chose to design its own — creating unique bonds between the chip and Apple’s software.

Feb. 2 (Bloomberg) — Apple Inc., saying it’s gotten a “small number” of complaints about its 27-inch iMac, made changes to fix flickering and yellow tinting on the computer’s screen. It also is working to increase supplies of the model.

“While slight color variability is normal for LCD displays, customers who are concerned that their iMac has a yellow tint issue should contact Apple Care,” said Colin Smith, a spokesman for the Cupertino, California-based company. Apple released a software update yesterday “to address the intermittent flickering reported by some customers.”
